The Rise In Male Jewellery

The Rise In Male Jewellery

Male Jewellery

With the mainstream media making insider access to high-fashion events and designers more accessible, interests in fashion have boomed; and it’s not just the ladies getting involved. Historically, women have appeared to have more of a passion for fashion however, male style icons have begun to pave the way for men in fashion and more specifically, men’s jewellery.

But how did the rise of men’s jewellery, come about? And what jewellery should men be wearing in 2023.

The Male Jewellery Boom

While the overall global sales of jewellery decelerate, retailers say sales for jewellery among male customers have skyrocketed in recent seasons.

So, why are more men wearing jewellery? Although men wearing jewellery is certainly nothing new, society has appeared to have had an awakening when it comes to originality and expressing yourself. Without ties to toxic masculinity, men are free to express their individuality throughout a multitude of outlets whether it be fashion, makeup, nail art or jewellery, to name a few.

If you’re a newbie when it comes to jewellery but want to join in on the fun, there are some trends in men’s jewellery that you should be looking out for.

Gemstones: Gemstones add a touch of luxury that you can’t find anywhere else. For those with pierced ears or looking to get their first piercing, a men’s diamond earring can offer a simple yet timeless look.

Chains: Whether you’re looking for statement or simple, chain necklaces have it all. Available in a huge variety of thicknesses, colours and materials, chains have gained huge popularity in the world of men’s jewellery.

Rings: As a classic piece, rings should be a staple piece in any man’s jewellery box. Gold rings add a touch of sophistication and make you look well put together.

Dog tags: A fairly new trend in the jewellery sphere, but one that shows no sign of going anywhere is dog tag style necklaces. These typically thin chains don dog-tag style pendants which can usually have the option to be engraved, if you’re looking for something personal to you.

Who are the key celebrities influencing this trend?

International celebrities such as Harry Styles, Brooklyn Beckham and Timothee Chalamet have been the front runners in driving the men’s jewellery trend.

Better known for his musical talents, Harry Styles is also known for his ability to express himself through the medium of jewellery. Whether it be statement rings or his signature pearl necklace, his sense of style in men’s jewellery is one of the reasons the search term “Harry Styles Jewellery” reached peak popularity on Google Trends in 2022, according to Crisscut Magazine.

Younger celebrities have been making bold statements in their fashion and jewellery choices. Timothee Chalamet was seen sporting a Louis Vuitton harness that the BBC described as “an immense piece of jewellery itself”.

Self-expression in the form of jewellery.

A common theme amongst the men who wear jewellery is to use it as a way of moving away from masculine stereotypes and towards expressing yourself in a visual way for yourself and others to enjoy.

Jewellery is far more than mere decoration, and the incline in the men’s jewellery trend shows modern men are paving the way for future generations to enjoy without the fear of judgement.
