Can anyone play Blackjack?
Anyone in the UK over the age of 18 is welcome to pull up a seat at a Blackjack table.
If playing online, when creating an account, you’ll need to show some proof of age with a form of identification (ID). The casino provider’s accounts department will then check this over and either grant you access to the virtual online casino floor, ask for another form of ID, or possibly reject your application.
What’s the aim of Blackjack?
The aim of any game of Blackjack is to hold a hand of greater value than your opponent, the dealer, without exceeding a total of 21.
How do you find your hand’s value?
To find your hand’s value or total, you need to add your cards together. All playing cards hold a value.
Numbered cards hold the value of the number shown on the card. For example, the Six of Diamonds holds a value of six, whilst the Two of Clubs holds a value of two.
Royal cards, also known as picture cards, hold a value of ten.
Aces, however, hold not one, but two values, allowing the holder of the card to choose what value best suits their current hand – either a value of one or 11.
What do players mean when they say “hit”?
If you hear a player say “hit” at a Blackjack table, or you’re wondering what the ‘hit’ button does in an online game of Blackjack, it simply means that each time you say “hit” to a dealer, they’ll deal you another card into your hand.
You do need to be careful when doing this, as if the new card brings your hand total above 21, you instantly lose.
What do players mean when they tell the dealer they “stand”?
If you hear someone say “stand” or you press the ‘stand’ button online, this means no more cards are required and the dealer can go on to play their hand in a bid to hold a higher value than the other players.
Can another player interfere with my game?
All other players around the Blackjack table, both in person or within a live Blackjack game, have no influence or say in the game you play between yourself and the dealer, just like you have no influence on another player’s game. They’re simply there for the same reason as you – to try and beat the dealer!
Now that we’ve answered a handful of frequently asked questions, we hope we’ve answered some of the questions you may have had before, and that you feel more confident heading to a Blackjack table, either online or in person.
